A CASE OF PSYCHOSIS ASSOCIATED WITH CUSHING SYNDROME

Abstract
The authors reported a case of psychosis associated with Cushing syndrome. The patient presented in this paper was a 19 year old single female student of college, who had become psychotic after hospitalization in the Department of Internal medicine before operation (right side adrenalectomy) was performed. The main symptomatological manifestation was that of affect, alternating between depression and hypomania, combined with delusional ideas, auditory and olfactory hallucinations. It was probable that psychosis in this case was due to psychic stresses which was followed by her loss of female figure and recognition of her disease the prognosis of which was poor. In terms of treatment of her disease, she was managed satisfactorily with pharmacotherapy (Chlorpromazine: 500 mg 700 mg/ day) in acute phase of her illness, which was combined with milieu therapy and supportive psychotherapy.
